Here’s a story for all of ya’ out there…

On June 6th, 2006, artist Joshua Ross and I (along with colorist Austin McKinley and letterer James Reddington) launched a new online comic titled TALES OF MR. RHEE, which was meant to take the place of our weekly updated online comic NIGHTMARE WORLD, which was quickly approaching the end of its 52 story run.

Mind you, this was still in the days when I was self-publishing my comics online, but as those of you who pay attention to such things know, NIGHTMARE WORLD went-on to get picked-up for first online — then print — publication with Image Comics/Shadowline.

TALES OF MR. RHEE initially found an online home there as well before we signed a publishing deal with Devil’s Due Publishing for the collected online series as a graphic novel titled TALES OF MR. RHEE Volume 1: “Procreation (of the Wicked)”, which we crowdfunded to the tune of over $15,000.

By the time this all came to pass in 2013 (it’s a marathon, not a sprint, folks), Josh had gone-on to become a successful full-time tattoo artist while I had began taking to the comic convention circuit quite heavily (while continuing to write comics for various publishers as well).

The moral of this story is that Josh and I were never able to sign on TALES OF MR. RHEE: “Procreation (of the Wicked)” together… until now.

On Saturday, June 6th Josh and I will be appearing at Special Edition: New York Comic Con (Table H8 — as in “Hate!”) in New York City!

Oh… and the real irony?

We’ll be bringing the LAST EVER first print copies of the book to the show with us!

Fear not, though… TALES OF MR. RHEE Volume 1 is already going to a second print, and here’s a Sneak Peek at the new cover design, also by the amazing Riley Rossmo!

I’m especially excited about this new cover design because it matches the cover of TALES OF MR. RHEE Volume 2: “Karmageddon” by Eric Powell, which can be seen here:

Hopefully Josh and I will get to see a lot of you in New York (I’m also doing a brief panel presentation with Buddy Scalera as part of his “Creator Connection” panel Saturday from 5:00-5:30, and I’ll be at the show at Table H8 all day Sunday, too!), but if you’re not able to make it to New York, fear not, as throughout the rest of June I’ll be making appearances in Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan, too!

(See the “Signings and Appearances” tab at the top of the page for full details on them all…)

As always, I look forward to seeing many of you on the road this month… or at least online through your social media platform of choice, be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr

Talk to you soon, yeah?

Your friend in comics,
Dirk Manning
